Why Victoria Point Families Travel to Alexandra Hills for Their Dentist

There are dentists closer to Victoria Point than we are, and we won't pretend otherwise. So why do people drive past them to get to us?

Usually it's one of a handful of things. If you ring before 10 am with a toothache, we'll see you that day, guaranteed. A first check-up and clean costs $190 whether you're with a health fund or not. Some of our dentists speak Mandarin, Chinese or Korean. And we stay open until 8 pm on Thursdays and open on Saturday mornings, which helps when your week is mostly work, school runs and after-school sport.

Close to home is handy, but it's not much use if the next free appointment is a week away and you've got a tooth throbbing now.

Getting to Alexandra Hills Dental from Victoria Point

We're at Shop 2/191 Vienna Rd, Alexandra Hills. From Victoria Point, you stay within the Redlands the whole way, so there's no battling Brisbane traffic. Coming in for the first time? Ring us on 07 3824 4488, and we'll tell you the easiest way in and where to park.

Family Dental Care for Every Age, from Toddlers to Grandparents

A lot of parents would rather have the whole family at one dentist they trust than spread across three. We see toddlers on their very first visit, teenagers, mums and dads, and grandparents looking after older crowns, bridges and dentures.

Day to day, that means check-ups and cleans, fillings, root canal treatment and extractions, including wisdom teeth. We also do cosmetic dentistry like teeth whitening and porcelain veneers, and braces and clear aligners for straightening.

Regular Check-Ups and Cleans to Keep Small Problems Small

Most dental problems don't hurt at the start, and that's what makes them easy to ignore. Decay and gum disease can go along quietly for a long time, and by the time you notice them, the fix is usually bigger and costs more than it would have earlier.

Dr Webert Chen, our principal dentist, compares plaque to barnacles on a boat. The longer they stay on, the harder they are to get off, and they cause damage while they're there. For most people, a scale and clean every six months, plus brushing and flossing at home, keeps that under control.

Our check-ups go further than a clean. Every clean includes an oral cancer screening, which draws on Dr Chen's background in radiation therapy, along with a look at your jawbone, lymph nodes, and bite. We usually take X-rays every two years, or sooner if something needs a closer look.

Free Kids Dental Under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule

A good time to bring your child in for the first time is around age two, or when they're starting school. We tend to keep those early visits short and relaxed, so the chair and the noises become familiar rather than scary.

If your child is eligible for the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), covered basic dental services may have no out-of-pocket cost for eligible children aged 0 to 17. Eligibility depends on your family receiving Family Tax Benefit Part A or another relevant Australian Government payment. If your child's treatment period starts in 2026, the scheme covers up to $1,158 over two calendar years in a row. It doesn't cover braces or cosmetic work. You can check whether your child qualifies, and how much they have left, in your Medicare online account through myGov. If you get stuck, ask us, and we'll help.

Same-Day Emergency Appointments When Toothache Strikes

Toothache never picks a good moment. We set aside emergency toothache appointments every day we're open, so if you call on 07 3824 4488 before 10 am, we'll see you that day. If you're in pain, this is what to do:

  1. Call us before 10 am and tell us what’s going on, whether it’s pain, swelling, a broken tooth, or a lost filling.
  2. If you’ve chipped or broken a tooth, keep any pieces you can find and bring them with you.
  3. Come in at the time we give you, and we’ll work out what’s causing the problem and get you comfortable.

If you have facial swelling that's spreading, or any trouble breathing or swallowing, go to your nearest hospital emergency department straight away.

Gentle, Judgement-Free Care for Nervous Patients

Plenty of adults get nervous about the dentist. For some it's needles, for some it's pain, and for others it's the fear of being lectured. We tell you what we're going to do before we do it; we don't rush, and if you put your hand up, we stop.

Some people find happy gas (nitrous oxide) helps them feel more relaxed. You stay awake and can still talk to us; it just takes the edge off.

What Your First Visit Costs, Plus Health Funds and Payment Plans

Cost is often the real reason people put off the dentist, so here it is plainly. Medicare doesn't cover most dental care for adults in Australia, which is why a dental bill can feel steep next to a bulk-billed GP visit. With us:

  • Your first check-up and clean is $190, with or without private health cover, and it includes a full exam, a gentle clean, and an oral cancer screening.
  • We’re a preferred provider for CBHS, Australian Unity, HCF, Medibank and Bupa.
  • You can claim on your health fund at the front desk with HICAPS, so on the day you only pay the gap.
  • There are three payment-plan options, plus SuperCare, if you’d rather not pay for treatment all at once.
  • Eligible eligible children aged 0 to 17 are covered for free under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.

Before we start any treatment, we'll tell you what it costs. We also won't talk you into treatment you don't need.

Replacing Missing Teeth: Implants, Crowns, Bridges and Dentures

A missing tooth can change how you chew and how much you smile. We offer dental implants, crowns, bridges, and dentures. It's also worth knowing that the teeth beside a gap can lean into it over time and change your bite. Before suggesting anything, we check your medical history, gums, and jawbone, then go through the options with you.
